I happen to think a peer reviewed article from the New England Journal of Medicine is a credible source (but I'm sure the Useful Idiots do not)

"We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic."

Wait a sec....

Doesn't the article contradict itself??

Says masks won't help you from infection, but then goes on to say you cannot get it from quick exposure or interaction.

So which is it....

I don't see it as contradictory at all (and it doesn't say what you're quoting). My takeaway is if I'm going grocery shopping or doing something where I'm not having prolonged close contact with someone, there's no need to bother with it. Distancing and good hygiene are clearly the most important things.

TSA analogy is exactly right. CDC originally said masks are not necessary and then the issue became politicized and the media amplified it and here we are. If it makes people feel better we can let it go...kind of like how many feel about religion.

Ok I'll quote it then:

"We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection"

That leads you to believe that despite wearing a mask, you can still become infected.

It doesn't say:

"We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities ISN'T NECESSARY BECAUSE (followed by rest of article)

I know I'm being picky, but either that's a contradiction, or this person didn't excel in grammar.

Do not find it contradictory at all. IF you have read up on transmission of viruses and this virus outside in the open you have pretty much zero chance of contracting it. as you need to be in a confined area and exposed to it for at least 10 minutes minimum from a person who has it close to you.
Walking by someone in the supermarket will not give it to you, it is constant exposure in a closed area is how you get it.

If people would just go and read the scientific factual evidence things would be so much better if this country but unfortunately
people only read headlines or watch tv for their "facts" and we get what we get...

And that explains why it has spread like wildfire?

For every doctor and/or scientist that believes this, you will find another with the opposite opinion.

They are all split.

Hence the reason I don't know what to believe yet except the fact you do not want to catch it regardless.

Thank you T Hawk. I think I said the same thing and it has nothing to do with excelling in grammar. It also says "symptomatic" not asymptomatic which is an important distinction.

This is not a belief, it is 100% scientific fact and proven.

Saying you do not want to catch it is the problem. People need to be exposed to this and the quicker the better.
This is not that bad, the majority of people have no symptoms and a few have minor and some have major issues with it
Those are the outliers when you look a the statistics of anyone under 65.
